Alan Emil Roberts passed away in his home on June 21, 2024. A lifelong resident of Key West, he was born to Merrill Emil (Tuffy) Roberts and Ida Adella (Haskins) Roberts on July 27, 1952. After finishing college at Florida State University, he returned to Key West to help his parents run the family Plumbing business, Roberts Plumbing Contractors, becoming a state certified plumbing contractor and general contractor. He went on to be the Assistant Director of Maintenance for the Monroe County School Board and Director of Maintenance for the Key West Housing Authority until his retirement in August of 2021. He was a faithful parishioner of the Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea with a strong devotion to Mary, the Mother of God, through the recitation of her Rosary. He is preceded in death by his parents Merrill and Ida and his nephew Marcus A. Arce. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Kathy Ann Roberts, a loving father to his four children, Merrill (Elizabeth) Roberts, Fr. Nathaniel Roberts, Graciela (Sean) Milligan, and Emma Roberts; and proud grandfather to his ten grandchildren, Alan Roberts, Daniel Roberts, Cedric Roberts, Xavier Roberts, Mary Roberts, Philip Roberts, Seraphia Milligan, Melanie Milligan, Damien Milligan, and Luke Milligan. He is also survived by his two sisters, Gail Roberts and Carol (Kurt) Stephens, niece and nephews, Leonard Owens III, Ryan (Amanda) Owens, Kara Stephens, Kevin Stephens, and Brent (Laura) McDonald, and his brother-from-another-mother, Morgan Randolph Tynes. Visitation will take place at Dean-Lopez Funeral Home, 418 Simonton St., on Friday, July 5, from 6-8pm, with the recitation of the Rosary at 6:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea, 1010 Windsor Ln, on Saturday, July 6, at 3:00 pm. The presider will be his son, Father Nathaniel Roberts. Burial will be in the Albury Family Plot in Key West Cemetery immediately after the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Masses for the repose of his soul at the Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea. Dean Lopez Funeral home is handling all arrangements.
