Obituary

Anton Michael Dattilo of Key West, Florida died suddenly on February 24, 2026 of complications of throat cancer.  His wife was with him as he quietly passed. Born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 3, 1953, he was the son of the late August and Mary R. Dattilo.  Anton was a devoted Catholic; a faithful servant of the Lord. He is survived by his loving wife Tomoko Takahashi from Tokyo, Japan, siblings Anthony, Martin, Mary, and Marion and wife Jerri Davis; nieces and nephews, Gina, Robin, Emily, Rose, Richard, Tracy, Martin, and Ana; and close friends Sarah and Jim Taylor. He was a loving husband, brother, uncle, and Godfather and a friend to so many. Anton was known for his infectious smile, big moustache, great sense of humor, warm personality and a big cigar in his hand.  Anton was a gifted architect and artist. He attended Cleveland High School, Missouri and Kansas State University, Kansas. He served as a Draftsman in the US Army during the Vietnam era in the United States and in Germany, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and others. He was employed by the US Army Corps of Engineers in Iraq in 2004, serving as a Security and Justice Sector Construction Manager, and employed by the US Navy in Mississippi, Greece, Florida, and Japan having over 25 years of federal service. As Construction Manager and Architect, he made a positive impact at installations across the globe. He also lived in Austin, Texas and in Northern Colorado. He spent part of his early career in private practice as an architect in Kansas City, MO. Anton, planned to take his wife Tomoko to Florence, Italy this summer to show her Michelangelo's sculptures and architectural works; a renaissance master he admired.  Driven by a lifelong passion for architecture, he felt fortunate to have fulfilled his childhood dream. He was a truly wonderful man – possessing a big, kind heart and strong convictions – who held a deep love for Italy and a dedicated sense of mission for America. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. His absence will be felt deeply, but his spirit will forever be with us. Services will be private.
