Arcadio "Rod" Domingo Rodriguez, of Key West, Florida, passed away peacefully with family by his side on March 24, 2024, in Miami, Florida. Rod was born on August 4, 1934, in Key West, Florida, to Josefa and Arcadio D. Rodriguez. He was a proud third generation Conch. After graduating high school in 1954, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Japan. He proudly served his country during the Korean War era, specializing in Armory. He was medically discharged from service after 3 years due to extensive hearing loss. In 1957 he returned to Florida where he enrolled at the University of Florida, completing a bachelor's degree in business. Shortly after graduation, he met the love of his life, Jean Rogers, and they married in 1962. While starting their family, Rod also began his career working with Firestone Tires. In 1973, Rod and his family moved to Key West where he opened his family-owned business, Banner Tire and Garage. He successfully ran the business for 45 years.Rod was an avid fisher, hunter, and reader. He spent many Thanksgivings in Pennsylvania, always present for opening day of buck season. He hunted throughout the United States, Canada, and Africa. He displayed many of his hunting trophies in both his homes in Key West, and Pennsylvania, where the home was known as "The Church" due to its former use and architectural style. Rod was a proud man. Proud of his Cuban heritage, proud of his hometown and business, and most of all, proud of his family. He valued education and a strong work ethic, something he exemplified throughout his life. Arcadio is preceded in death by his parents, wife of 60 years, Jean Rodriguez, nee Rogers; brothers Eloy and Nelson Rodriguez, and grandson Dylan Rodriguez. He is survived by his two sons; Richard (Tania) and David; grandchildren; Sarah, Alexa, David, and Justin; and six great-grandchildren, and sister, Martha Alfonso. A mass will be held April 6, 2024, at The Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Key West, FL at 11:00am. Interment to immediately follow at Key West Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:45am – 10:30am at Dean-Lopez Funeral Home; 418 Simonton St., Key West, FL 33040; before the funeral mass.
