Benton B
Goodloe
February 19, 1952 – September 27, 2022
Benton Bascome Goodloe 70, of Marathon, FL passed away Tuesday September 27, 2022 at Fishermen's Community Hospital, Marathon, FL. He was born on February 19, 1952 at Millen, Georgia.
Ben Goodloe started working for Parkhill Goodloe dredging company at the age of 18 until there closure in 1988. After working for various other companies he and his wife (Bettie Murray Goodloe) started Goodloe Marine, Inc. a successful dredging company of 23 years. A family owned business that included his two sons, Benton Goodloe, Jr (Boomer) and his youngest son Britt Goodloe. Ben loved his sons very much and was proud of the business the family had created.
Ben and Bettie met during their childhood, however, after not seeing each other for a few years came back together as teenagers only to fall in love for a lifetime. They had just celebrated their 50 years of marriage and were a team whatever obstacles may come their way. They had a life and love for each other which most can only imagine.
Ben Goodloe fulfilled his life dreams of lobstering, diving, fishing and the love of the water. It was always his dream of living in the keys which he accomplished and was so happy. It was common knowledge he would never retire because he loved the work, he loved to fix things and he loved to keep his wife happy. He received his pilot's license after only 5 hours of training and soloed at the young age of 17 under Jim Mosher, a stunt pilot out of St. Augustine, Florida. At the age of 19 he received scuba certification and never looked back. Whether he was changing props on yachts, spearfishing, lobstering or grabbing shark tail Ben enjoyed his dives. His love for offshore fishing was well known whether it was Kingfish tournaments or fishing in the Keys.
He was survived by his loving and devoted wife Bettie, his two sons Benton Jr. "Boomer" and Britt, along with his special daughter in law, Seanna and his dear grandson, Brayden. In addition his father, George, his brother Melson, his sister Tommie. Also Carson Cross his Uncle and Margaret Ward his cousin.
Plans for a "Celebration of Life" in the Tampa area during his birth month of February to be determined at a later date. Information can be obtained through deanlopezfh@yahoo.com. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the show Of Pits and Parolees at https://vrcpitbull.com/.
