Mansfield, Charles "Chuck" D of Bellevue NE passed away unexpectedly from complications of Agent Orange in the Florida Keys on March 14, 2023.
Chuck was born on June 16, 1940, in Lakeview MI. After graduation from Remus High School, Chuck attended Ferris State College for one year. Deciding he wanted to see the world he joined the Air Force. Serving 20 plus years of service, as an intelligence analyst, tours took him to Turkey, Vietnam, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Philippines and over 102 foreign countries, his dream of traveling was fulfilled. When asked what his favorite country was, he would respond "You're standing in it". He was very close to his fellow Det 2 6910 Security Wing group attending every reunion possible. After several attempts to finish his degree due to TDYs he graduated with a computer science degree.
After retirement, he began a 30 year career as a government contractor with Sterling Software, Booze Allen Hamilton, back to Sterling and finishing with Northrop Grumman, retiring September 2012.
Chuck met the love of his life April 1993 and married his Sweetheart Connie Ulrich Shaul) on August 16, 1997. Chuck is survived by his loving wife, son Carl Mansfield, stepdaughter Tanya Shaul and Nick Ritter, Todd Kallhoff who he considered like a son and grandchildren Henry, Cassie and Bella Kallhoff. Brother David Mansfield of Ogden Utah and Sister Rita Lewis of California and many Brother-in laws, Sister-in -laws, nieces, nephews and many friends who were his chosen family. Chuck will be dearly missed by all those who lives he touched. Chuck never met a stranger, he honestly enjoyed meeting people and making friends and sharing all he had with all. Chuck was an excellent cook and thoroughly enjoyed cooking for many a party with his favorites being Oktoberfest, UnWind, Jazz on the Deck nights in the summer, and the Prime Rib Dinners that he donated to raise money for Metro Area Youth Foundation and many more good times with family and friends. He loved sitting on his deck, that he referred to as a "Sojourn in a Pleasant Surrounding" smoking a cigar while looking out over his ponds and rivers, watching the birds and harassing the squirrels on the bird feeders.
Preceded in death by his parents Harley and Lucille (Steiss) Mansfield, Brother Jay Mansfield, Sisters Mary Kempton, Nathalie Stream, Martha Howland and Linda Mansfield and foster parents Frank and Christina Eldridge.
A celebration of life will be held later with an interment at the Omaha National Cemetery. Chuck was a very giving and loving person who loved to help Children. Chuck touched many lives through the Nebraska District Optimist holding every office even Nebraska Optimist Governor from 2002-2003. He especially cared about Children with Cancer and was instrumental in the forming of the nonprofit organization Metro Area Youth Foundation. Chuck was also big a supporter of Camp Quality of the Heartland by providing and cooking the last night's meal for all the campers, companions and volunteers every summer for many years.
In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to be made to either Metro Area Youth Foundation or Camp Quality of the Heartland.
