Charles Raymond
Filer, Jr
May 24, 1935 – May 30, 2023
Charles Raymond Filer, Jr. was born in Key West, Florida on May 24, 1935. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Filer Sr. and his mother, Edna Filer. He was called home to our Lord after a brief illness on May 30, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Janet Filer, his sister, Betty Boza, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles "Ray" began his career in the U.S. Army, where he spent two years stationed overseas in France followed by two years in the Army Reserves. After his deployment, he served as a firefighter for the Boca Chica Air Base. Upon his final retirement, he spent his time as a carpenter building homes in the Lower Keys, where he built he and his wife's first home on Sugarloaf Key.
He had many hobbies and talents and held a pilot's license up until recent years. He could often be found tinkering with his antique radios, throwing a Cuban yo-yo off the sea wall, or patrolling the town with a cafe con leche in hand. He will be greatly missed but will forever be remembered through his wife's, sister's, nieces, and nephews many memories.
The family extends a special thank you to his caregiver and friend, Julie Lozano. A private family graveside service will be held.
