Clay Greager passed away peacefully on October 23, 2023 at his home in Key West, Florida. Clay was born in Shamokin, PA on September 17, 1940, the son of John and Mildred Greager. Clay was married to his devoted wife, Maxine Greager, for 62 years.
He is survived by his wife Maxine Greager, his sons Todd Greager (Suzanne) and Scott Greager, his daughters Lisa Steinbach (Curt) and Wendy Gonzalez (Mike), and grandchildren Taylor Greager, Noelle Gonzalez, Alan Greager and Hailey Greager and his brother Ed Greager (Mary Ann).
Clay Greager was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1959 to 1979. He served one tour in Germany, one tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam with the First Air Cavalary. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal and an Air medal with eight oakleaf clusters along with multiple other medals. When he returned to the states, he served as an army recruiter from 1970 through 1979 in Pennsylvania.
At retirement from the Army, Clay and his family moved to Key West to be the service manager at Chango's Auto Dealership. He later worked as the general manager at Boog Powell Marina.
In 1994, he opened his own business as Last Flight Out, an aviation themed retail clothing and accessory store on Duval street. The store featured many of his personal writings and ideology from his military career. He made many great friends through all the people he met in the store.
Clay was known for his love of music and his storytelling. He also published several books including "Last Flight Out" and "So You Think You Can Be President?".
A celebration of life and interment will be held at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida at a later date.
