Flora B Rueda 103, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends October 01, 2023 at her home in her beloved city of Key West, FL.
Flora was born at home on 422 Bahama St. (Chicken Ally) on July 14, 1920 to Alfredo and Rosaura Barroso one of seven brothers and sisters. She grew up on Bahama St. and went to school at the Convent of Mary Immaculate were she graduated from. She met and married Evelio J (Skip) Rueda on August 18, 1941 and raised 3 children Kenneth, Richard and Norma. Coming from a musical family, she loved to play the piano all the way up to her passing. She played the piano at Bay Shore many years for the "Old Folks" as she called them. The family would get together and have a musical fest. She was a house wife, a mother, a musician. She loved to travel and went many wonderful places. Her life was filled with joy and happiness with all of her family and friends. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for over 55 years. She loved her church, The Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea where she was a member of the choir for over 50 years. She also volunteered as one of the Pink Ladies at Monroe General Hospital for 16 years. She also started the Conch Ladies which meet at local restaurants every Wednesday to have a social and catch up on the local news and their families, which is still going on today. She had many stories to tell of how she grew up on Bahama St. One of the stories was going across the street with her sisters to Dean-Lopez Funeral home to see the corpse that were coming in. Her mother and her younger sister Norma were on the last train to Key West before the Hurricane of 1935 destroyed the railroad.
Flora was predeceased by her father Alfredo Barroso, her mother Rosaura Perez Barroso, her sisters Grace Barroso Gonzales, Anna Barroso Stockwell, Estella Barroso Swift, her brothers Lucio Hector Barroso, and Alfredo Barroso, her husband Evelio J "Ship" Rueda, her son Kenneth W Rueda. She is survived by her sister Norma Barroso Faraldo 99, her son Richard P Rueda (Rosemary), her daughter Norma Rueda Dingman, grandchildren Ryan Dingman (Rosemary), Robert Dingman (Jamie), and Scott Dingman (Lindsay), Allison Rueda Cote, and Alan Rueda, her daughter-in-law Marsha Sawyer Rueda, great grandchildren Madalyn Dingman, Wesley Dingman, Raya Dingman, Brianna Cote, and Ashlee Rueda.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday October 9, 2023 at the Basilica of St Mary Star of the Sea Church with a visit to the Key West Cemetery for her final resting next to her husband and son. Family and friends are welcome to Klaus Murphy Center next to the church after the cemetery. All arrangements are entrusted to Dean-Lopez Funeral Home. Family and Friends are encouraged to sign the guest book on Dean-Lopez Funeral Home website.
