Fred Brooks
Sellers, Jr
December 27, 1960 – May 24, 2025
Fredrick Brooks Sellers, Jr. was received into heaven from his home in Key West, Florida on May 24, 2025. God, knowing Fred would grow up to embody generosity and bring joy wherever he went, had him make his appearance into this world in the height of the holiday season on December 27, 1960 in Tennessee to parents Fred, Sr. and Joan Sellers. He eventually relocated to Key West at the age of nine and turned it into his forever home. In his early years in the Keys, you could usually Sellers find him in the heart of Big Coppitt at his father's legendary furniture store, Southernmost Furniture. Together, they built a multi-generational family business that operated under the mindset that integrity and depend- ability were of the most importance and that every customer was a neighbor first. Fred quickly took an insatiable interest in all of the natural bounties that the islands had to offer, chief among them being the plants, fruits and fish, of course. He learned of true love during a chance encounter with Connie, who would eventually become his wife. The births of their two children, Fredrick III and Alexa, completed their family and filled his heart. He retired not too long after earning the new title of "Pa" to the two joys of his life, Joseph and Stella. Fred's larger-than-life presence and charisma made him a beloved character in the community with his affectionate moniker "Coconut Freddy" and iconic gratitude filled radio sign off ringing through the streets as locals greeted him. Fred was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed giving his time to the church and community. His baby blue eyes and jovial demeanor could turn strangers into friends and strays into pets, as they often did. He shared his home with countless animals from cats and dogs to peacocks and turtles, caring for each as they were his favorite. Fred is survived by his wife of 45 years, Connie; their children Fredrick III (Chelsea) and Alexa; and his grandchildren Joseph and Stella. A service celebrating Fred's life will be held on Friday, June 6, at 12:45 PM at The Basilica St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, located at 1010 Windsor Lane in Key West, FL. Peonies were his favorite, THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUU!
