George William Thompson Sellers, Sr. 1941 – 2026 With heavy hearts, we celebrate the life of George William Thompson Sellers, Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, businessman, and friend whose strength, integrity, and love touched countless lives. George was born in Key West, Florida, a proud fourthgeneration Conch, to George O'Brien Thompson and Rosabelle Marie Bethel Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents and many beloved members of the Bethel, Williams, Wardlow, Lowe, Lewis, Hammonds, Sterling, Flynn, Rojas, Soriano, Garcia, and Bello families. For 65 years, George shared a beautiful life with his high school sweetheart and devoted wife, Gloria Alvarez Sellers. Together they built a life founded on love, faith, commitment, and family, setting the example of what true unconditional love looked like. George is survived by his beloved wife Gloria; his five sons and daughters-in-law, George "Chuck" (Gina), John (Cindie), Mark (Mary Jo), Eric (Vanessa), and Keith (Misti); his sisters Betty Sue Griffin Flynn and Debbie Sterling Candia; his nine grandchildren, Cassie Dziatlik (Jaime), Bailey Sellers (Zach), Evan Sellers, Ethan Sellers, Makaela Sellers (Anthony), Eric Sellers Jr., Caroline Sellers (David), Mark Sellers Jr. (Meagun), and Sierra Byrnes (Seth); his great-grandchildren, Lola Smith/Lulu and Annalee Thrasher; and many cherished extended family members, including Baylie Robbin’s, Gabrielle Pariag, Amanda Alfonso (Mark), Gustavo Alfonso, Jack Walker (Sandy), and Racheal Walker. A skilled self-taught electrical and general contractor, George was the respected owner of Island City Electric. Known for his exceptional workmanship, honesty, and fairness, he built and earned the trust of his community through decades of dedicated service. For George, the work was never just about making a living—it was about doing things the right way, helping others, and treating people with kindness and respect. Many remember that he was often willing to lend a hand, offer advice, or help someone in need simply because it was the right thing to do. To his family, George was so much more than his profession. He was a loving husband, an incredible father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. His greatest pride was his family. His five sons were the center of his world, and nothing brought him more joy than talking about his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Through his example, he taught the values of hard work, perseverance, loyalty, and integrity. Though often a quiet man, George possessed a wonderful sense of humor and a deep appreciation for life. He loved nature and often shared stories of his childhood adventures in the wild bushlands of Key West—hunting birds, flying kites, cooking over open fires, and enjoying countless adventures with neighborhood friends. These stories became treasured memories for generations who loved listening to them. George's wisdom, work ethic, and unwavering love created a legacy that will live on through all who knew him. His presence made people feel safe, supported, and deeply loved. The lessons he taught and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of his family forever. While saying goodbye is incredibly difficult, we find comfort in knowing that George's legacy lives on in the values he passed down, the family he cherished, and the countless lives he touched throughout his years. Rest peacefully, George. Heaven shines brighter with your presence. Thank you for your love, your guidance, and the example you set for all of us.
