Gregorio Liria Garcia was born in Regla, Cuba, near Havana, on May 10th, 1925 to Manuel Garcia & Solidad L. Garcia. He passed away on March 19th at 99 years old. At the age of 5, his family moved to Puerto De La Cruz on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain. There, he would reside for the next 17 years, where he lived on a banana plantation amongst many family members. In 1947, his family returned to Cuba where Goyo (as his family called him) would work as a brick and tile mason on some of Havana's most beautiful buildings and landmarks. In 1957, he met his future wife, Isabel Hernandez, under a Spanish lime tree while she was visiting in Cuba. After getting married he moved back with her to her hometown Key West, FL. where they would raise their three children. Goyo would continue to work in the construction field as a tile setter specializing in the art of Terrazz Floors and would later own a masonry business. Gregorio was past Master of the Dr. Felix Varela Masonic Lodge #64 and a State officer of the Grand Lodge of Florida. He holds the distinct honor of
being a 32nd Degree Mason. Goyo loved his family, cherished his friends and was passionate of his trade. Goyo will always be known for his hard work, his great kindness, his warm smile, and steel blue eyes. He will be missed by many who loved him. He was a man of faith may he be joined again with Isabel and may he rest with our Lord now. He is preceded in death by his wife, Isabel, his father Manuel, his mother Solidad, Two brothers Jose & Manuel II & sister Elvira. He is survived by his children Manuel (Anita), Wayne (Angie), Yvonne (Danny), 6 grandchildren
and 4 great grandchildren and many more family members & friends. A mass will be held on Monday, March 31st at 3:00 p.m. at The Basilica of Saint Mary Star of the Sea, immediately following burial at the city cemetery. In Lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to The
Basilica Church Campaign.
