Joan Elizabeth Cushman succumbed to illness on December 11, 2025 in Key West, FL. Born at Camp McKall in Richmond N.C. to Hope and Edward Casey on November 12, 1944. Joan settled down in St. Louis, MO raising her two daughters, Jackie and Lisa. Joan graduated summa cum laude in accounting from Washington University in 1985; later receiving an MBA from Dayton University in Ohio. Going on to run a division of the National Cash Register in San Diego, CA in the 1990's. Relocating to her favorite vacation island, Key West, in 1995 she opened the Upstart Crow bookstore across from the Hemingway House. Both being friends of Bill W., Joan met Victor Cushman starting their lives together in marriage in 2007. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Victor Cushman; daughter, Lisa Schroff; father Edward Casey; mother, Hope Rushlow; and sister, Leslie Farrell. She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Noel (Drew Heathcote); granddaughters, Mandi Schroff, Wynde Noel, and Kelli (Travis) Noel-Palmer; sister, Elaine Farrell; and cousin, Sherrie Barnes. Graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 10:30 am at the Congregation B'nai Zion section of the Key West Cemetery on Frances Street with Rabbi Shimon Dudai.
