Mary Evelyn
Chase
December 11, 1945 – January 12, 2025
Mary Evelyn Chase, 79, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2025. Mary was the heart and soul of her family.
Born on December 11, 1945, to parents Eldemiro "Meding" and May Nell Morales of Key West, Florida, Mary developed a deep sense of community early in her life. She was a proud 1963 graduate of Key West High School, and she embodied the Conch spirit.
Mary's greatest passion was for her family, and she found immense joy in cheering on her children and grandchildren at their various sporting events. She was a constant presence at games, with her bright smile and unwavering support lifting the spirits of everyone around her. "Grandma Mary", as she was affectionately known to her children and grandchildren's friends, was cherished by so many because she treated everyone like family and gave unconditionally to those that were in her life.
Beyond her role as a mother, Mary had a life-long career in banking, starting as a young teller at First Federal Savings and Loan and rising to the position of Senior Vice-President of Iberia Bank before her retirement in 2018. She loved her island community and was proud of her service as a member of several organizations including Key West Rotary, Samuel's House, United Way of the Keys and Leadership Monroe. She found immense joy in giving back to the town she called home.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 36 years, Bill Chase; children Donnie (Maria) Preston, Tiffany (John) Hughes, Neda (Michael) Jackson, Russell (Susan) Chase, Victoria (Michael) Walters, and Michael (Lydia) Chase; grandchildren Blaine (Brianna Lapapa) and Jada Preston, Zack (Lauren), Andrew (Olivia) and Cade Freeman, Zack (Olivia), Carson (Bella Perez), Luke Hughes, Preston, Zander and Zoey Jackson, Reid, Parker, Jessica and Morgan Chase, Logan and Acadia Walters; great-grandchildren Scarlett Freeman, Augustina and Chandler Freeman, and cousins Tommy (Mary) Kennedy, Diane (Ken) Davis, and numerous friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, sister Margaret Morales, and grandson Garrett Hughes.
