Philippe “Phil” Jean Klausing passed away on August 9, 2026, at the age of 61. He was born in London, England, on July 19, 1965, to the late Jean “John” Klausing and June Bowhill Klausing. In 1972, the Klausing family made Key West their home. Phil attended St. Mary’s Star of the Sea and graduated from Mary Immaculate High School in 1983. He later attended Florida Keys Community College. For his professional career, he held a supervisory position at Stephens Distributing in Ft. Lauderdale and later became the general manager for Budweiser here in Key West. He was employed by Keys Energy Services as an Engineering Field Representative at the time of his death. Phil would have celebrated his 20th year at KEYS in January, 2027.Phil was a man of integrity with a big, kind heart. He was caring, had an upbeat personality, and appreciated the simple things in life. His ability to make people laugh with his quick wit and one liners came naturally. He was someone that showed up, could be counted on, and was always willing to help, unconditionally. Phil embodied the Key West lifestyle, always seen cruising around on his scooter. The ocean was his happy place. He loved boating, fishing, lobstering, and enjoying a day at the sandbar with his family and friends. For Phil, it was about more than being on the water, it was about being surrounded by the people he loved, sharing laughter, stories, an ice cold Golden Grunt, and making new memories along the way.Phil was a devoted Miami Hurricanes fan. He loved everything Canes, the tailgating, the cheering, the win, and the backyard gatherings, but especially the gang that shared his love for the team. When the Canes won, Phil had his own way of celebrating—he’d take a victory plunge in the pool.Phil had a way of making ordinary moments memorable. His love for playing ’80s music earned him the nickname “PK the DJ,” and no party was complete without his signature picadillo dance. Phil being Phil always brought laughs. His gift for making people smile wasn’t just for parties or special occasions—it was simply who Phil was, every day.Phil was a creature of habit. Early to bed, early to rise. He enjoyed an early morning jog or bike ride, and on weekends, he was often one of the first customers grabbing a café con leche or strolling into Publix. Wherever he went, Phil had a way of striking up a conversation with whomever he encountered, always promising to share his lotto winnings with the cashier who sold him the winning ticket. He could brighten someone’s day with the smallest interaction. Phil will be remembered as a selfless man, a true friend, and a positive soul.“Night-night, termite.”Phil is survived by his life partner, Nancy Cruz, and her children, Selyne (Matt) and Brandon Casas; his sisters, Nadia (John) Hall and Anita (David) Merkel; his nieces, Laura (Kevin) Burch, Ella Hall, Emily Merkel (Eli Roggy), and Erin King (Brad); and his great-nieces and nephews, Benjamin Burch, Penelope Burch, and Caden Roggy. He also leaves behind a community of friends, colleagues, and loved ones who will miss him deeply.Phil's Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 19, at Flama Cabana, 3420 N. Roosevelt Blvd, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
