Richard "Dick"
Abdullah
November 4, 1943 – August 26, 2023
Richard "Dick" Abdullah, age 79, passed away peacefully at home in Big Pine Key on August 26 with his wife Dianna at his side after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Richard was born in Corona, NY, the son of Ali and Shirley Abdullah.
Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1961-1964. He was a Sargent and served one tour in Germany. After being discharged from the Army, he moved to Long Beach Island, NJ where he lived most of his adult life. He worked for Burroughs Corp where he sold and serviced small business equipment before he opened his own business in 1988. He named it Ocean Business Machines and was located in Surf City on Long Beach Island, NJ. Richard sold his business in 2015 and retired to Big Pine Key, FL. Before he retired, he volunteered as an ambulance driver and fire policeman for the Surf City Fire/EMS Department which he truly loved.
Richard enjoyed fishing and kayaking with his wife Dianna and yellow lab, Marilyn Monroe. He loved tending to his orchids and many plants and trees he had planted in his yard, but always looked forward to his daily bike ride with his buddies lovingly known as "the biker thugs". He truly loved living in Big Pine Key as it was his dream to live out his retirement in paradise.
Richard is survived by his wife of 23 years Dianna, brother Nelson Abdullah, sister-in-law Emily Hogan (John), brother-in-law Charles Taylor (Shirl), brother-in-law William Taylor (Sarah), niece Karen Garone (Doug), niece Michele Smith (Michael), nephew John Abdullah, nephew Jeff Taylor (Aimee), great nephews, Owen and Ethan Taylor and great niece Alana Taylor as well as his beloved yellow lab, Marilyn Monroe.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Donations in Richard's name can be made to your local Fire/EMS company or local animal shelter.
