Obituary

Robert John Manfredini age 92, of Key West, Florida died July 23rd, 2025, with family by his side.  Bob was born June 28th, 1933, in Highland Park, Illinois to Helen and Battista Manfredini.  He grew up in Highland Park, Illinois and excelled in sports throughout his school years there. After graduating from Highland Park High School, he became a carpenter's apprentice and worked on many projects throughout Chicago's North Shore suburbs. Bob then entered the Army and was stationed at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia where he continued his three sport athlete skills (football, basketball, and baseball) and was awarded Athlete of the Year while stationed there. His love of baseball carried on long after those days in the Army and he found himself playing 16-inch softball for decades. He and a friend, Henry Bertucci entered the building trade together after Bob's time in the Army and worked together for many years until Bob started his career with Amedeo Ritacca and Sons in the Sewer and Water Contractor business. Bob worked with Ritacca and Sons until his retirement at the age of 70. He garnered much respect in that business and gathered many friends and colleagues along the way.  He married the lovely Myrna Johnson on October 15, 1960, in Lake Forest, and they along with their two children Paula and Rob Jr. made their home in Lincolnshire, Illinois for 25 years. In the late 1980's Bob and Myrna discovered Key West, Florida, and their dream of owning a home there came true in 1992.  Bob's family has countless memories in their home on Von Phister, and Key West will always have a special place for family and friends who visited Bob and Myrna throughout the years. Bob will be remembered for his stories of growing up in Highland Park, the many people he encountered throughout his baseball and softball years, and his work life.  He was a great encourager of his grandchildren, and in his later years relied on them to "look up on their devices" to see where an old friend may be living, or other facts or lore he wanted to share with them. Predeceasing Bob is his mother, Helen, his father, Battista, his wife, Myrna, his sister, Frances VandenHeuvel, his grandson, John Robert Crosby, and his son in law, Walt Crosby. Bob is survived by his daughter and son in law, Paula and Lee Flake of Ann Arbor, Michigan his son and daughter in law, Rob and Susan Manfredini, of Tower Lakes, IL his grandchildren Walter Crosby and his wife, Alex Bergland, Henry Crosby, Nick Manfredini and fiancée' Grace Bae, Lexi Flake, and Scott Flake. Bob also has many nieces, nephews and extended family members who survive him.   A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, at Kelley and Spalding Funeral Home 1787 Deerfield Road, Highland Park, Illinois with visitation and a service at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Highland Park High School Athletic Department 433 Vine Ave Highland Park, IL 60035 Attn: Mark Ribbens.
