Obituary

Roberto "Toro" Hernandez, 80, passed away peacefully at Mount Sinai in Miami on Friday, September 1, 2023.

Roberto was born April 18, 1943 in Villa Clara, Cuba to Thomas and Lucia (Ortiz) Hernandez. Roberto was one of seven children; Roberto migrated to Key West, FL at a young age, where he fulfilled his passion of becoming a well-known Commercial Fisherman and owner of three commercial boats R & J, R & J II, and R & J III. He was legendary fisherman who always had many stories to tell; he took many under his wing as boat owner and captain, he worked alongside his sons, nephews, grandsons, and mates thru the years that he considered family.

Roberto was proceeded in death by his parents and siblings Hector Hernandez, Miguel Hernandez, Victor Hernandez, and Marta Rodriguez.

Roberto survived by his two sisters Analita Rodriguez and Barbara Rodriguez along with his four sons and nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Roberto (Marie) Hernandez, daughter Crystal Hernandez, Ruben (Brei) Hernandez, sons Ruben Jr., Ryan, & Roman Hernandez and daughter Jayla Hernandez. Rogelio (Christine) Hernandez, daughters Karly and Kenzie Hernandez. Romeo (Asia) Hernandez, sons Romeo Jr. and Randolph Hernandez. Great grandsons Victor and Christian Canova.

Services will be held at the Dean-Lopez Funeral Home at 418 Simonton Street, visitation will be from 1-3pm on Saturday, September 9th, 2023, followed by the funeral service at 3:00pm.
