Obituary

Roland Corrales, 59, also known as Arturo, passed away on Sunday, January 7th, 2024, due to a massive heart attack. He was predeceased by his parents Daisy and Juan, as well as, brothers, Boris and Juan Carlos, and sisters, Vera and Nuria. He is survived by his husband Alexander, brother, Roger, and sisters Lorena, Sandra, and Cecilia, and a host of extended family members.

Roland was born Ronald Arturo Corrales Retana on July 28, 1964, in Alajuelita, San Juan, Costa Rica. Upon moving to the USA, he lived in the New York - New Jersey area.

After going home for his mother's illness and subsequent passing, he decided to move to Key West. As a long time member of the Key West community, he became well known and beloved by all who met him. On June 6, 2007 he met his partner, Alexander Marsh, who he married on January 15, 2015. In 2023, he proudly finished the process of becoming a citizen of the United States.

He was a very gregarious and selfless soul with a whimsical sense of humor who enjoyed gardening, as well as, spending time and traveling with his husband and his dogs, Zimba (deceased) and Foxy. Many knew him from working at Big Ruby's Guesthouse, La Pensione Guesthouse, Little Room Jazz Club, and the Congregation B'nai Zion. He would always lend a helping hand to anyone in need and will be sorely missed. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
