Roland Gilbert
Toppino
September 20, 1952 – August 2, 2023
Roland Toppino, born September 20th, 1952 in Key West, FL. Roland is survived by his daughter Christina Toppino, his sister Paula Frankel and brothers Charlie and J-P Toppino, their spouses and children and their surviving Toppino and Del Pino uncles, aunts and cousins. Roland is preceded in death by his mother and father, Edna and Paul, and his brother David. Roland grew up in Key West until the age of 12 when the family moved to Miami in 1964. As a young adult, Roland was an avid water skier, judo practitioner and had a love of horses and riding. He and his mother Edna loved riding together especially during the two years the family lived in Costa Rica. Roland graduated from Dearborn Academy in 1970 and initially pursued various career interests in the food industry, including years within the cruise industry and at the Holiday Inn at Calder as the F&B manager. This made sense considering Roland's prowess in the kitchen and his love of cooking. It was during this period that he met his wife Cheryl and had his daughter Christina. Soon after this, Roland found his true passion in exotic cars. He spent the better part of three decades buying and selling amazing vehicles of every type, both at high end dealerships and for his own account. After many years in Miami, Roland spent the later years of his life in Sarasota where he resided until his passing. For the past three and a half years, Roland resided with his loving caregiver, Cathy Morrison. Roland and Christina were able to celebrate a special early birthday together at Cathy's home last week. Services for Roland will be held in Key West on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at The Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea, followed by interment at the Key West City Cemetery. The Dean-Lopez Funeral Home is entrusted with funeral arrangements.
