KEY WEST

Obituary

Ronald Arnett Ecklund (Ronnie) was born on August 11, 1967 in Bastrop, LA and passed from his earthly life on October 9, 2026 in Key West, Florida.  He is preceded in death by his father Larry Ecklund, step mother Peggy Ecklund, dear cousin Mike Castleberry, aunt Linda Legget, grandparents, Jack and Ruby Williams and Doris McGraw.  Growing up in Bastrop, Ronnie made friends easily and had an endearing relationship with his family.  As a boy, his talent as an artist was evident and was encouraged with lessons from his art teacher, Mrs. Nelson.  He also began to show an interest in cooking at a young age. This was apparent when his mother would be surprised to find his concoctions in her refrigerator.  He turned this passion into a lifelong career.  His cooking talent and adventurous spirit led him to work on yachts and for restaurateurs in Monroe, New Orleans, North Carolina, Key West and along the East coast to the Caribbean.  After meeting the love of his life, Jude, he put roots down in his beloved Key West.  He used his cooking talents to treat family and friends to his delicious fare at many gatherings over the years.  There is a coconut in Ronnie's kitchen that has a quote from the Canterbury Tales that reads "Woe to the cook whose sauce has no sting".  Ronnie will be remembered fondly for his intelligent, quick wit, bright smile, unmistakable twinkle in his eyes and a loving, generous heart.  He also had a passion for Star Wars, heavy metal music, and literature.  Ronnie is survived by his loving partner of many years Judith Lamb, mother Margaret Johnson and step-father, Steve Johnson of Sterlington, LA, brother William Ecklund (Brandi) of Denver, CO, nephew Jackson Ecklund (Ronee) of Atlanta, GA, niece, Sophie Ecklund (Austin) of Austin, TX, Aunt Sue Lippert and cousin Roy Castleberry both of New Orleans, LA and many other family members and friends. A memorial service will be held 11/10/2026 in Key West, FL.
