In the early morning on Monday March 4th, our Rosie passed peacefully and was reunited with Papa Lew. Born on March 20, 1927, in Key West, Rose was a second-generation Conch whose grandparents came here from Cuba as cigar rollers. She married her husband of 65 years in 1955, Lew Salter Sr., and they had an exciting life together. She was a homemaker most of her life, raising her beloved son Lew alongside her close-knit family.

They lived in Key West, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and New Hampshire before returning home to the Keys in 1985 to stay for good. Once retired, they traveled the country in their RV, loved spending time with their grandkids, and then their great-grandchildren as well.

Rosie was the type of person who would help anyone in need, and insisted on feeding anyone who entered her home with the best Cuban food, and a rum cake if you were lucky. We'll miss her feisty personality, her quick-witted humor, and most of all her capacity for unconditional love.

She is preceded by her parents Manuel Garcia & Matilda Casas, siblings Quirina Gonzalez & Mary Dole, and her loving husband Lewis Salter Sr. She is survived by her son Lewis F Salter Jr. (Lori), grandchildren Robert Lewis Salter (Christy), Lauren Salter (Ray), great-grandchildren Bobby, Britney, Bryce, Rae, and Lewie, brother-in-law Nestor Dole, niece Aurora Higley (Arlyn), in addition to many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends!

Our deepest gratitude to Donna & the staff at Palm Vista, Dr. Tingle & the staff at LKMC for always taking such good care of Rosie until the end. A service will be held at Dean-Lopez Funeral Home at 4pm on Wednesday March 13th. A reception to follow at 6pm at 2504 Seidenberg Ave.
