Veda Raye Bixby, 79, of Little Torch Key, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025 after a brave multi-year battle with Alzheimer's and dementia. She is survived by her husband of 55 years Roger "Butch" Bixby, and her daughter Wendy Bixby, both also of Little Torch Key, her son Walter Bixby, her daughter-in-law Elaine Bixby, and her grandson Colin Bixby, her sister Susan Taylor, and her nieces, Roberta Patalan, Pat Lewis, and Cindy Turpin. Veda Raye spent many years working for the Key West Housing Authority and the Key West Comcast administrative office. "Raye" as she was known to friends and family, loved working for the people of the Florida Keys. Although she was born and raised in Norwood and Franklin, Massachusetts, she was very proud of her "honorary Conch" certificate. Raye loved her work, a glass (or two!) of white wine, anything purple, butterflies, Dunkin' Donuts coffee, Elvis Presley, jigsaw puzzles, and her late dogs Benny and Cleo. To those who knew her well, Raye was truly the life of any party. Raye's family would like to thank the amazing staff of the Lower Keys Medical Center and Oasis at the Conch Republic Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their help during her final days.
